World Mental Health Day!

How to look after your mental health

Today is mental health awareness day and here at Polycon we want to understand how we can always out our mental health first.

We want to create awareness of some tips according to the Mental Health Foundation about how we can look after our mental health.

1: Embrace nature

Some people believe that nature makes them feel calmer and allows them to feel refreshed. Taking a step outside can help clear the mind and allow you to re-focus when things seem overwhelming. Incorporating daily works or workouts into your routine can also help when it come to having a clearer mindset.

2: Understanding and managing feelings/ writing things down

Many of us may know when we are feeling down or low but not sure about what that feeling is. Allowing patience within yourself will allow you to come to terms with what you are experiencing and put you in a better position to be able to discover the problem. Writing things down is a great way to understand yourself better and what you are going through. It also is a great way to manage any stress and allow your feelings to be validated much quicker.

3: Talk to someone you trust for support

Some people have learnt to suppress their emotions and try to block out unpleasant ones. Telling someone else how we really feel or what is difficult for us might require a lot of courage, especially if it’s not something that is done often.  Taking to someone you trust can take away the stress and fear of judgement and help you feel heard.

4: Talking about a specific situation

Talking out loud may make you feel different about a specific situation. Once you have said what is bothering you out loud you might hear it in a different way and be able to come up with solutions you would not normally think of on your own. This is also helpful for the person that you talk to as it can bring you closer and create an outlet that may be beneficial for both of you should you any other difficult situations arise in the future.

5: The importance of sleep

When we are having mental health issues, sleep is frequently the first thing that decreases for many people. Adults require between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per night, including adequate time for deeper sleep.

Consider attempting a few easy changes if you have trouble sleeping:

  • Create a calming night-time routine to help you settle down before you actually go to sleep.
  • Steer clear of coffee, alcohol, and devices with screens before bed. You’ll be able to sleep and stay asleep thanks to this.
  • Avoid doing any strenuous exercise right before bed.

Even on weekends, go to bed and wake up at roughly the same time every day.

These are just a few tips that some people may find beneficial when looking after their mental health but for more information you can visit the Mental Health Foundation website today.
