We’re thrilled to welcome Ian to the Polycon team! As our new Sales Director, Ian brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective that will help drive our sales strategy forward. We recently sat down with him to learn more about his journey, his vision for the future, and what excites him most about joining Polycon.
What was it about Polycon that made you want to be part of the team?
Polycon is a dynamic, forward-thinking company with a strong industry presence. What stood out to me was the diverse and inclusive product range, catering to urban, commercial, highway, and industrial sectors with innovative drainage solutions like channel, slot, and Polykerb drainage. The extensive range of water management solutions was also a huge draw for me. With my background at ACO and Tubosider/ViaCon, I’ve worked extensively with similar product lines, and I’m excited about taking on a fresh challenge at Polycon.
What excites you most about stepping into the role of Sales Director?
I’m particularly eager to develop the sales team, refine internal processes, and enhance customer engagement. I have a strong passion for improving the customer-centric experience across all aspects of the business. There’s a lot of potential to strengthen our relationships with existing accounts while also focusing on new and potential clients—a challenge I’m more than ready to take on.
What’s one thing you’re really looking forward to achieving with the team?
A key goal for me is improving the Water Management division’s turnover and profitability. The team already has a great foundation, and I’m looking forward to helping drive this sector to new heights.
The drainage industry might not seem exciting to everyone—what’s something about it that people might not realise?
Honestly? It isn’t exciting! 😂 But what makes it special is the people. This industry has a way of keeping people in—it’s a close-knit community where professionals may change roles or companies, but they rarely leave the industry itself. That creates a unique environment where long-term relationships and expertise continue to grow and evolve.
If you could give one piece of advice to customers looking at Polycon’s products, what would it be?
What you see is just the tip of the iceberg! Beyond our high-quality product range, what truly sets Polycon apart is our service, technical expertise, and product availability. We pride ourselves on offering not just great products, but an exceptional customer experience. And yes, our products are really as good as they look!
Getting to Know Ian: Beyond the Office
What do you love doing outside of work—any hobbies or interests we should know about? I’m a bit of a fitness fanatic! I love my early morning 5 AM runs and hitting the gym in the evenings. Staying active is a huge part of my routine.
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you? Hahaha, I’m an open book! Nothing too surprising, I suppose. 😁
Finally, if you could have dinner with any three people, past or present, who would they be and why?
I would have to say, Elon Musk –because he is a visionary entrepreneur. I’d love to get an insight into how his mind works, his perseverance, and his approach to tackling global challenges like sustainability and space exploration.
Then it would have to be Al Pacino – One of my favourite actors. I’d love to hear his thoughts on his most iconic roles and the inspiration behind them.
And finally…My Dad – I lost him last year and have so many questions for him that I won’t get to ask.
